Ellie Slaney

Hazel Lewis-Farley, Ellie Slaney and Rebecca Uffindell work together as a collective exploring through film, textile-sculptures and interactive installations how manufactured spaces encourage creativity whilst simultaneously dictate how that is expressed. They aim to encourage the viewer to ask whether creativity can be taught, and to critique the current art institutions and schools on how they determine art and creativity can be taught. They are exploring this paradoxical relationship between nurturing creativity whilst also controlling it through criteria and deadlines since they found they were often finding that creating work that fit both the criteria of the course and their own personal creative ambitions stressful. By encouraging other people to explore and question, they hope to begin conversations surrounding art, creativity and
art institutions.
